About the Ravana's Lanka Inquiry

Ravana's Lanka was established to address one of the greatest unresolved questions of ancient South Asian history: Was the modern island nation of Sri Lanka the actual geographic kingdom described in Valmiki's Ramayana, or does this identification represent a later cultural overlay?

The Intellectual Debate

Mainstream academic discourse presents multiple perspectives:

  • The Classical Skeptical View: Certain scholars argue that Valmiki's epic places Lanka across an impassable sea along the equator, suggesting either a sunken landmass or an allegorical mythological realm.
  • The Central Indian Hypothesis: Other historians suggest that original narratives may have taken place near the Godavari basin or the Vindhya mountain ranges before migrating south.
  • The Sri Lankan Topographical Reality: Opposing these theories is the undeniable density of living traditions, palm-leaf medical texts (Arka Prakasha), ancient place names (Weragantota, Wariyapola), and sacred sites actively venerated for millennia across Sri Lanka.

Our Approach

We do not engage in sectarian dogma or blind nationalistic chauvinism. Rather, we compile physical field data, cave survey notes, official Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB) corridor documentation, and local folklore to let readers, researchers, and world travelers examine the tangible evidence for themselves.
